Merry New Year!!
Three thoughts to welcome in 2007: 1) It's good to be near the focal point. New Year's has never been high up there on my holiday list, but I always enjoyed it less when I wasn't in the Eastern time zone when Auld Lang Syne was sung. I have to conclude that this is because the dropping of the ball in Times Square means something more when I'm in the same time as New York. Why this is true is beyond me.posted by Dan on 01.01.07 at 12:32 AM Comments: I love "Trading Places," but always wondered who wears costumes to New Year's Eve parties. Who but Jim Belushi dresses up as an ape to ring in the new year? Anyway, seemed unrealistic, but good point that there aren't a lot of movies that cover the holiday. posted by: b. phillips on 01.01.07 at 12:32 AM [permalink]I thought Trading Places did a great disservice in its misleading portrayal of agricultural commodity markets. When Harry Met Sally was pretty good with New Year's Eve. I never understood what Meg Ryan saw in Billy Crystal, but given that one admittedly massive suspension of disbelief the New Year's Eve angle was handled well. posted by: Zathras on 01.01.07 at 12:32 AM [permalink]A question to readers -- is there a movie that does a better job with New Year's Eve than Trading Places?
