My excellent reason for reduced blogging

Much as I would like to blog about the Republican National Convention, I'm afraid danieldrezner.com will be pretty much silent for the next week. Part of this is due to the imminent arrival of 100th annual meeting of the American Political Science Association.

The more important reason is a personal one that I vaguely alluded to last week. There's a new addition to the family:

Lauren C. Drezner
seven lbs., zero oz.

With all due respect to Henry Farrell, this is undoubtedly my best co-authoured project for the last few years!!

Comments:

That's more than worth skipping a lousy political convention.

Best wishes to all three of you.

Being a Dad is the best job I have ever had (I have two domestic sons, and two sons imported from Romania). I wish you every joy. My advice is that you front-load the attention, shaping, and education.

Oh, and get rid of your television set.

Dan Drezner should strongly consider having a sign in policy for posters similar to Roger L. Simon’s. This would prevent another occurrence of somebody pretending to be another person. I will also not hesitate to take legal action against anyone who commits such immoral behavior.

A baby?
Cool... congrats!

You know, after many years of experimentation, and hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in the investigation, we now know what causes those.... Beer.

Yes, beer. we've found that beer, when consumed by a female...and aged about another 9 months, becomes a baby. We're quite unsure of the chemical processes involved.... certainly it sounds an unlikely transition.

Sam Adams is particularly potent in this regard, for reasons we've not determined, as yet. We're still investigating this aspect, of course, and may have a better picture of all of this in a few years... assuming we can ever get all these kids to shut up at night long enough for us to continue with our experiments.

Know anyplace we can get diapers, cheap, by the truckload?

posted by: Frederick on 08.30.04 at 04:36 PM [permalink]

Frederick:
Hah. As if she cares about $1 trillion all done by that evil Dubya (I guess Democrats in Congress haven't voted for any appopriation bills these past three years?).

When she's an adult, she'll face more than $40 trillion in unfunded obligations on Social Security and Medicaid alone.

Using your simplistic explanation, I guess she can blame FDR and LBJ for those debts.

Wow, take a great event like a baby's birth and cheapen it with politics.

Wonderful news. I only hope that, when she hits the job market, all the decent jobs haven't been off-shored or become monopolized by keep-it-in-the-family South Asian immigrants. And I hope she won't want to settle in California, which will have 50 million people and and average speed on the 'freeways' of 10 mph.

posted by: Frederick on 08.30.04 at 04:36 PM [permalink]

Oh, and to respond to your substantive remarks, Steve MG: Dubya's disastrous war in Iraq and repeated tax cuts are responsible for a large proportion of his record budget deficits. No responsible president (and certainly not one who in 2000 advocated a constitutional amendment mandating balanced budgets, as Bush did) would keep increasing spending and cutting taxes. (As you'll recall, Bush wanted even larger tax cuts than he was able to get from Congress, and still wants to "make the tax cuts permanent," which would produce even more obscene budget deficits.) Equating Bush's responsibility for budget deficits with FDR and LBJ's responsibility for the condition of Social Security and Medicaid many decades after their deaths, as you do, is goofy.
